Lightning Strikes Twice

MR23/Untamed Empires

A leisurely ride back to Solrayon sur Mer. Montagne would have preferred a faster pace, but the need to escort Lady Acasia's carriage means a more relaxed pace. This did mean that Al's route planning worked splendidly and the coaching inns made for a very civilised journey.

In the village itself, rebuilding work is proceeding on the Comte's house, repairing the damage that the vile Albions inflicted with their surprise attack. Bernard takes his shipwright Arnauld on a tour of the village, planning out the new naval yard that will be built. There will have to be some relocating of the villagers, of course. The dockyard will cover all the existing settlement and there's also the matter of the fortifications for the headland.

It's nothing a few explosives won't fix.

The planning is interrupted by the troubadour Megane and the engineer Hendryk. They have come from the artillery guard that Bernard left on the headland. The Albion squadron has returned and is bearing down on the village.

Bernard takes command of his men. They have superior range, but not the firepower to match three Albion frigates. Best to keep their powder dry until they can strike a crippling blow. The Albions rendezvous with a fishing boat as they watch and wait. Spies, perhaps. Bernard sends a trio of dragoons to shadow the fishing boat. The Albions withdraw back out to sea.

Back to the Comte's house for the evening meal. But then the dragoons return. The fishing boat was swallowed by a storm. An unnatural storm, that is now bearing down upon the village.

This is uncomfortably like Beziar. Lightning is going to strike twice. It can only be Albion sorcery.

The order to evacuate the village is given. The Comte and his people will seek shelter inland, in the town of Solrayon itself. Bernard and his friends take shelter in the church (Trinity will forgive them stabling their horses in the nave) to observe the storm. They must find out how the Albions are doing this.
